SERIES:

#isitart

Medium: Mixed Media, Paintings, Sculpture
Exhibition: #isitart (REPRISE)

William Paul Gaetjens prototyping his “Glyph” series in cardboard circa 2006.

The artist has frequently employed the use of cardboard prototypes while planning more elaborate metal works in order to eliminate expense and waste of materials. In #isitart, as working with metal becomes increasingly less accessible to the artist due to physical limitations associated with age, cardboard was explored as the final medium.

This exploration of materials led to sculptures created with stencils that were preserved and later repurposed for an unexpected use.

The pieces used in the above freestanding + wallhanging sculptures were used as stencils in the paintings below. This series evolved after years of employing the same techniques in metal and canvas paintings.
